In an effort to promote and strengthen relationships between NSW Car Clubs, each month Rally NSW will be profiling one of the clubs that make up our rally community. This month we are talking to the Nissan Datsun Drivers Club, organisers of the Myall Stages Rally.

Nissan Datsun Drivers’ Club

Club Name: Nissan Datsun Drivers’ Club

Club Location: Western Sydney, NSW

Membership: 25

Motorsport focus: Rallies and motorkhanas

The club has been in existence for 46 years and was originally known as the Datsun Drivers’ Club. Over that time the club has had a very chequered existence from being one of the largest clubs in NSW with over 500 members in the days of the 1200’s and 1600’s. While the club has conducted very successful Supersprint Series with sponsorship from St Marys Tuning and Rallyequip, Motorkhanas and Dirt Circuits at the Colo Park complex, the club has always had a focus on Rally and Rallysprints.

The early rallies were conducted in the former State Forests in the Forbes, Parkes and Orange region. In those days the events were usually around the 200 mile in length. The club then moved events closer to Sydney with events being conducted in the Oberon region for 22 consecutive years.

What events does the club organise?

With a move in 2006 to the Bulahdelah region the club is excited to be conducting the 10th Myall Lakes rally on the 3 September.

Any famous/successful members?

Many of the NSW Clubman and State Champions have come from the club including Arthur Jackson, Rod Turnbull, Frank Neale and nearly any driver that competed in a Datsun 1600.

What are the clubs plans for 2016 and the future?

The future is looking comfortable with members becoming accredited officials under the CAMS Officiating program. As always attracting new members is a very real challenge and for 2016 the club will be conducting twilight motorkhanas on the SMSP skidpan.
