The Johnson and Kennedy Freight Services Echidna Gully Rallysprint was the first round of the Rally NSW Rallysprint Series, and also the first rally event held in Armidale in over 10 years.

The event was taken out by Peter Roberts and Jim Gleeson in an Evo VI, from Steve Mitchell in a WRX, and Simon Jamieson in his Evo VI making a return to competition after 13 years on the sidelines. John Spencer won the 2WD battle in his beautiful Nissan 240RS, and took out a credible 6th outright.

While the competition was hot on the road, Richard Opie and his team from NESCC did a fantastic job of providing a relaxed, friendly atmosphere which competitors loved. But, don’t take our word for it. Here’s what some of the competitors thought:

What an awesome event, having everything there from the great roads, accommodation, dinner (and NESCC food also), the friendly company; the event ran so smoothly. Thanks to everyone who helped out behind the scenes and on the weekend for the event to go ahead. Can I pre-enter now for next year?  (Kristy Turnbull)

Peter Roberts and I really enjoyed the event. Great road, great location and friendly, “no problems” organisation. The only thing that we spoke to Richard about that would make it sensational would be a second short stage close by. The post event party, presentation and meal were great as well. Definitely on the must do again list! (Jim Gleeson)

We absolutely loved this event. So pleased we made the trip from QLD. The venue (Echidna Gully) was perfect and the organisation spot on. And the roads! My goodness. They were some of the best roads I’ve driven on. Except that damn bridge!  It was such a relaxed event but with some great competition. I’d like to have a chance to explore a bit more of Armidale next time. We drove through it on the way home and it looks lovely. (Karen Martin)

Big thanks to Richard and all the NESCC team. What an awesome weekend. Great location, fantastic bit of road, very easy, fun, and relaxed event. Lots of friendly people too and the set up of the whole weekend made it very social. Can’t wait to come back next year please! (Campbell Moody)

Was a great event. Had a ball. Very good roads. Hope it runs again next year. (David Parkinson)

Was great. Well organised and run. Roads were great and damn fast. According to Jack, top speed was close to 180km/hour. First time I’ve read pace notes, so the pre-written ones were a great help. (Steve Beaufoy)

Great event, well run, very competitive, beaut friendly people ,and I will return next year. (Keith Byrne)
